Luke Jerram – Museum of the Moon

17 May to 5 June

Museum of the Moon is a breath-taking touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram.

Visitors to the main gallery of 20-21 Visual Arts Centre can admire the stunning moon sculpture, measuring six metres in diameter, which will hang within the atmospheric nave of this Grade II* listed former church building. The sculpture features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:600,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 6km of the moon’s surface.

20-21 Visual Arts Centre is the latest of a number of venues, both indoors and outdoors, to have presented Museum of the Moon – each venue providing an individual experience and interpretation of the artwork. As it has travelled from place to place, it has gathered new musical compositions and an ongoing collection of personal responses, stories and mythologies, as well as highlighting the latest moon science. The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.

During the course of the exhibition at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, a number of lunar inspired events have been planned to make the most of this unique installation. Exciting announcements and booking details to come soon.
