Food Review // Ali’s Food Hut Indian Sharing Platter

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This afternoon we decided to pop into town. We went into the market but didn’t plan on eating but the tempting smell of Ali’s food hut lured us over.

There were already a fair few customers lined up waiting to try some of Ali’s Authentic Indian cuisine.

The first thing we have to mention is although busy and handling quite a few orders between them, the staff were polite, friendly and speedy. Especially the young boy taking the orders, he was a real pleasure.

There are plenty of meal offers to choose from and Ali’s Food Hut isn’t short on options but we wanted to try a few different dishes so opted for the £10 platter.

We grabbed a table and the wait wasn’t too long at all.

Ali’s Sharing Platter

On the platter you have the option to pick 2 curries. We went for Beef Bhuna and Chicken Tikka Masala.

The platter came with a mix of tasty starters,2 curries, pilau rice, paratha (Indian flatbread), a curried vegetables dish, chips, 2 large poppadoms, mango chutney and mint yogurt dip.

The curries were mild but didn’t lack in flavour, with a good consistency to the sauce and melt in the mouth meat. All the food came to the table piping hot.

The platter certainly wasn’t short of colour and when it came to appearance it all looked very appetising. It was well presented and the taste matched. I liked that there was a good array of flavours in the platter and the fresh herbs and spices really stood out.

Selection of Starters

The kofta packed a bit of a punch when it came to heat. One of our favourites was the bhaji in the starter bowl, it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and tasted great.

The circular platter came in handy in the centre of the table, it made it easy to spin around and spoon out the different dishes onto your plate.

There was more than enough food for two people, we even asked the helpful staff for a bag and box to take out our leftovers.

The market isn’t perhaps somewhere you would usually go for a weekend meal out or indeed a takeout but the whole experience was pleasant. Sure, it’s simple and no frills but when it comes to taste and value for money it was an enjoyable experience and we will be back again in the near future.

Ali’s food hut is just a great new addition to the town centre food options available and gets our full marks on value for money. It’s got quality and quantity.

So if you fancy trying a bit of everything, Ali’s sharing platter is a great option. Parking is easy and free all day on weekends in the multistory, which is in close proximity to the food hall.
