NEW VENUE: The Irish Scunthorpe is set to open this weekend, what can you expect..

Wayhay, you’ve been waiting for it! The time is almost here and it’s going to be a big change for the venue that stood just a few weeks ago as The Light Nightclub for many years.

Located on Oswald Road in Scunthorpe, the former 1912 Congregational Church was operational as The Light Nightclub since the late 2000’s.

I remember the early days of The Light Nightclub it was absolutely rammed, which is probably hard to believe for the youth of Scunthorpe today, but it was wall to wall most weekends, pushing through people, holding hands with your mates in a line so you didn’t get lost on the way to the bar.

As The Light, the venue tried a lot of different club nights but as times shifted and habits changed it seems Scunthorpe was missing something for those over the age of 30. The Light Nightclub also charged an entry fee, which no other venue in town did unless it was an organised event and it had opening hours appealing mostly to a younger demographic not opening until 10pm-11pm at weekend and staying open until 5am-6am.

So on to The Irish it is, and I think it’s probably just what Scunthorpe town centre needed. It’s not just a pub, it’s got numerous TV screens dotted around the venue now, ready for the live sport, it’s moving away from being a DJ club and more into the live music. Judging by the Cleethorpes Irish, it’s mostly solo acoustic, but we will find out as time goes on I guess. We can also expect interactive darts, a pool table and some other interactive games, Along with karaoke and party nights.

The opening is 4pm on Friday 12th June with live music expected to start from 7pm.
