Gig Review // Black Orchid @ The Dolphin Inn

Saturday Night and William was back at his favourite pub the Dolphin Inn to see covers band, Black Orchid.

Black Orchid consist of Lead singer Jo Altoft, a lady with a very powerful voice, Rick Altoft on keys & harmonies, Mark Russell on Bass and Backing vocals, Glyn Atkinson on Drums and Martyn Sayers on guitar.

On Saturday Night, I believe this was one of the best bands I have seen or reviewed in a long time.

Their first set covered 13 numbers, the first song they played was, Sweet Dreams. They had the dance floor rapidly filling and it remained like that until the last number of the evening.

This band wasted no time in introductions, they just kept the songs coming and the dancers, dancing.

Their excellent musical abilities and harmonies gave the audience a real musical treat with numbers like Valerie, Sit Down, Ruby and Human being among the numbers in the first set.

The Dance floor emptied while the band took a quick break, upon returning for the 2nd set of the evening, the dance floor immediately re filled and the audience danced the night away to numbers like, It’s My Life, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Walk like an Egyptian and Gimme Some Loving.

At the end of the evening the encore from the audience for more songs was long and loud. The band deserved all the loud responses at the end as they had delivered a truly first class evening of music. It was a brilliant night had by all and I would love to see this band play again soon.
