A place often forgotten as it’s not right in the town centre but a lovely little bar and restaurant hidden away.
You receive a warm welcome with plenty of manners and smiles. We ordered some drinks at the bar and were told to make our way upstairs to the restaurant. I like it as it’s a different atmosphere to a chain restaurant.
The Plea deal is a new value menu on offer at the venue to make a midweek meal out more affordable. It’s running Monday to Wednesday at £12.95 for 2 courses and £15.95 for 3 courses and is available between 5pm – 8pm.
It’s not as fancy as their usual menu but there is still enough to pick from.
We ordered prawn cocktails for starters, which came very nicely presented and you can’t go too wrong with a classic starter like that. You got just enough in your dish. I liked the little dishes on the wooden boards it gave it a bit more of a classy look.
We ordered our mains at the same time as the starter so we weren’t waiting long between meals. We went for the 6oz steak and chicken Parmigiana.
I wasn’t expecting too much steak or a brilliant cut for the price of the deal but I was a little disappointed with it. It was abit thin and fatty and it was more well done than medium rare but I can imagine it could be difficult to get a thin steak cooked to preference.
It wasn’t horrible but it did reflect value rather than quality in this case. However the chicken parmigiana was lovely. Soft and succulent chicken breast in a light batter with tomato puree and cheese. It was that good we shared a bit. The chips were also fantastic. I know chips are just chips but these were beautifully cooked, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside with a great texture. To finish off the plate was a side salad with a pleasant dressing and tasty ripe cherry tomatoes.
I’d recommend trying the new plea deal if the usual menu is out of your price range or too fancy for you. It was a simple, no frills menu with tasty options and a nice venue with good atmosphere. It’s a very relaxing setting for a meal out.
