(Charlottetown, PE Canada) – It’s been quite the year for acclaimed Canadian songwriter and performer Ryan Cook.
In the fall of 2018, this multi-award winning artist took home his fourth Music Nova Scotia Award for Country Recording of the Year and completed successful 20-date Atlantic Canadian tour including many of which were sold out. Since, the self proclaimed snowbird has toured Southeast Asia before returning to Canada in February to complete an Ontario tour. He also snagged a nomination for ECMA’s Country Recording of the Year for his 2017 album Having a Great Time.
Things are certainly not slowing down for Cook who recently released a new single, a cover of Harry Nilsson’s ‘Everybody’s Talkin’ ahead of his first European tour which kicks off next Thursday, March 14 at Boldron Village Hall; County Durham in the UK. The seven-week long tour will take the Nova Scotia Native through rural England, Manchester with additional stops in Germany.
This will be Cook’s first time touring in Europe, and he couldn’t be more excited. “Touring, especially rural touring, has become an extremely important part of my career as a musician. It speaks to my love of travel, while also embracing the roots of country music. Rural communities are often where great art is born and most appreciated making this tour very meaningful to me.”
Cook’s new cover of Harry Nilsson’s classic vibes well with the singer-songwriter’s nomadic ways. “I think it’s especially fitting that I’ll be touring my new single, ‘Everybody’s Talkin’. Though the theme of the song is travelling, it is also about searching for the place you belong, attempting to connect with others, and it reverberates with me as sort of a personal anthem.”
Cook secured this tour in-part through his successful performances at Contact East, the Atlantic Presenters Association’s premier performing arts showcase and conference held each year in Atlantic Canada. There, he caught the eye of many international delegates.
“I saw Ryan perform at Contact East in 2017 and I knew immediately that our audiences in Lancashire would love his unique, homegrown yet modern style as well as his engaging personality,” says Lyndsey Wilson of Spot On Lancashire. “Ryan is a fantastic musician with a witty repartee and that down to earth Canadian charm we have come to adore over in the UK. He’ll be performing in four venues in Lancashire, bringing our venues and audiences a great night out in their local community, and we can’t wait to welcome him here!”
Mixing classic country music with modern satire, Ryan Cook has forged a sound between contemporary folk and dyed-in-the wool country. He has shared stages with the likes of Dwight Yoakam, Rosanne Cash, and Travis Tritt and has compiled an impressive list of awards and nominations over the years, including four Album of the Year Awards from Music Nova Scotia.
