We attended the 2014 semi finals of Rock Open to see what bands it had on offer. I have been attending The Rock Open now for probably about 12 years at the various venues around Scunthorpe it has been held.
Yes I have been disappointed with results, yes I probably have questioned the scoring. But on Saturday 29th November at The Lincoln Imp, Myself and another member of the Scunthorpe Nights team have been invited onto the Grand Final judging panel.
I am looking forward to seeing how it works and scoring the bands on the different abilities they all have.I think it is quite important to support competitions like this even if we don’t always agree with the outcome because every year I have seen some outstanding bands and performances pass through the heats and even if they don’t make it through, you saw them, you enjoyed them and they maybe made a new fan or two.
It’s a great opportunity to find new bands and hear new music, not just from the area but from surrounding areas.
Tickets for the final are £5 on the door and the countdown starts at 7.30pm.
The winners will share in a £1,000 jackpot donated by the two main sponsors, Wren Living and United Health, plus free recording time at The Jam and Tripdown studios.
The Finalists are:
Crooked Lizard (Hull)
COAVES (Hull)
Recruits (North Lincs)
Your Cat Is A Landmine (Lincoln)
Blind Wives (Lincoln)
We Lost Bravo (Doncaster)
