Scunthorpe Steel – The Exhibition

Saturday 11 July 2026 to Saturday 26 September 2026.

This summer 20-21 is celebrating steel making in Scunthorpe with a major exhibition featuring new and archive films, photographs, artworks and objects celebrating and inspired by steelmaking in Scunthorpe.

The exhibition brings together previous photographic projects produced in partnership with the steel mill.

Richard Heeps’ Rolled Out project is a visual record of the Bloom and Billet mill, photographed prior to its closure in 2007, and former Scunthorpe steelworker Ian Lee’s 88 and Out series documented the Plate Mill and its decommissioning, as well as new works by the artist.

Films on show include the cinematic film British Steel – The Movie, reclaimed previously unseen historical footage from the British Steel archive, and the documentary A Steelworkers Story, by artist Michael Burkitt.

There is also a display of ‘Scunthorpe Steel Through Our Eyes’ an open call photography exhibition by members of our community.

Make Now Think Later
Make Now, Think Later!

Saturday 20 June to Saturday 19 September.

This exhibition presents selected works from the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Awards 2024–25, celebrating how young people across the UK explored identity, place and wellbeing through artist-led projects.

Bringing together outcomes from four commissions in England, Scotland and Wales, the exhibition highlights creativity as a powerful tool for connection, resilience and self-expression.
