Food Review // Mr Brunch #Scunthorpe

I have ordered from Mr Brunch a few times but I’ve never been to dine in. The Brunch kitchen was busy with app orders flying out of the ticket machine.

Neil “Mr Brunch” himself showed me around the organised and well kept kitchen and prep station and I watched one of the chefs cooking up one of the popular sharer boxes. We even got a sneak peak inside the very clean and regimented fridge. Ingredients are bought in fresh each day and clearly labelled.

Mr Brunch is slightly hidden, at the back of Apart42 Hotel on Doncaster Road, you can access the back car park and pop in to the restaurant for collection or to eat in. It’s clean and welcoming.

We started off with the Chicken nuggets, which are made from fresh chicken breast and dipped in their special batter. These were some tasty nuggets, crispy with a slight hint of spice, coating the tender, juicy chicken inside.

We also had the halloumi sticks, a decent size portion (sorry I’d already eaten some in the photo below) and well seasoned. Both made even better by the accompaniment of the 3 special Brunch sauces for dipping.

For mains, we had the popular Farmers Wife burger with double smash patties, a chicken burger, fresh salad and red onion with plenty of sauce and lots of melted cheese. The burgers have a great texture and flavour, no gristle and the flavour of the meat cuts through the rest of the elements giving it good balance.

Second main, the Re Re Sub with Red sauce, mayo, lettuce, red onion, smashed cheese burger and topped off with dirty Donner. Both buns were so soft and fresh, lightly toasted and that let the flavours shine.

The stand out sauce for me is the spicy one, this goes onto the highly addictive loaded fries mixed with another secret ingredient, the crispy fries are then briefly tossed and coated in the special sauce with oozy cheese melting the flavours together, they are sweet and sticky with a hint of spice and just very moreish. And if you can’t handle any spice, then opt for the regular fries because they are nice too.

There is a huge selection of burgers to choose from and some great names that come with them, like the “Scunny Init” and the monster 4 patty burger “The No No”.

Mr Brunch also serves breakfast with lamb sausages and Turkey bacon.

The eatery is open Tue-Sun 11:30am-21:45. It’s a good spot to have a burger with friends or family and you’ll definitely get more flavour and bang for your buck than the fast food giant down the hill.
