“I don’t even know always what sets it off, but when it happens I’m not responsible for what I say or what I do. “
Arriving home after a long honeymoon Hedda struggles coming to terms with her marriage, having married for financial security not love, and moving into a new home she and her new husband cannot afford.
Brought up in a sheltered environment by a single parent, Hedda had yearned for years to grasp life by the throat and enjoy herself. Instead she feels trapped. Buried alive with years of tedious, intolerable life ahead of her.
She plots to break that tedium by the manipulation of those close to her, with consequences that even she had not foreseen…

An extract from the British Theatre Guides Review
‘It’s gratifying, at a time when light musicals so dominate mainstream theatre, to find a relatively small company tackling one of the dramatic masterpieces, and doing so in such a full-blooded a way.
What makes Hedda Gabbler such a great play, the frustration of a newly-married, sensual woman bored by life with a good-hearted but dull husband, while constrained by social mores and the fear of scandal, is also what makes it such a challenging role for its anti-heroine.
Director Andrew Whittle has adapted Ibsen’s original using contemporary language, which contrasts very occasionally with Rebecca Moore’s lovely period costumes and an equally impressive set designed by Chris Bassett and lit by Carl and Sally Walker’.
