Saturday evening, we attended The Baths Hall to see this years Christmas Panto “Cinderella” with our local treasure Annie Fanny.
The turn out was surprisingly good especially with it being the big game but we won’t speak about that. Annie Fanny however used this for comedic value, teasing scores and winding up the people in the audience missing the game for the panto. “Footballs coming home”, it isn’t”,”it is”, it isn’t”,”it is”,”it isn’t”.
As always, a great production with plenty of laughs for the whole family. This year Annie Fanny plays one of the ugly sisters, which switches up her usual role as she’s usually the friendly panto dame. So it was interesting to see that even as an ugly sister she still wasn’t a villain in the eyes of the audience even being slightly mean to poor old Cinders.
This year you are also introduced to Fanny Annie, playing the 2nd ugly sister so you get two panto dames for the price of one this year.
The two leads, Cinderella and Prince Charming had stunning vocals as they do each year and the lovable Buttons had everyone feeling sorry for him.
The tale didn’t strictly follow the traditional Cinderella plot, but close enough and it makes it more entertaining not know what is coming next.
The production didn’t disappoint with it’s usual charm, wit and unplanned mishaps. Wigs falling off, slips, kicks and falls all adding the the panto experience we just love.
I must say the scene that really stood out to me was when Cinderella takes to her carriage to attend the ball, the backstage and prop team really have outdone themselves this year! It really was quite beautiful, with a fairy light covered carriage, beautiful horse mask costumes, a woodland backdrop and snow falling onto the stage, it was quite something and I’m sure very magical for the little ones.
Top notch dancing and singing from all the performers on stage, and overall it was a very entertaining and enjoyable show. It’s great to see the audience standing up and dancing along , clapping and cheering. So don’t delay and book your tickets today, there is limited availability remaining for certain dates.
