New LGBTQ+ Community group “Scunthorpe LGBTQ Society” now hold brand new weekly socials at The Black Door at Britannia.
Every Sunday
1pm until 3pm.
They welcome everyone as long as you are friendly and respectful. The society are also working towards holding an outdoor pride event in Scunthorpe in 2023 and are looking for input, performers, vendors, local businesses and volunteers.
Scunthorpe LGBTQ Society Social Sundays are growing in popularity week by week and giving the local community a safe space to meet and socialize. This Sunday is family week. Pop along and see what it’s all about.
Sunday 18th September we are back at The Black Door at Britannia for another exciting Social Sunday.
This Sunday it’s family week! A few of our community members asked if they could bring their siblings, children or other family members along so that’s what we are doing! Bring anyone you like as long as they are friendly, come chat & play some games.
Also “MIND” mental health support should be informally dropping in, for anyone wanting to know more about what services and support they offer.
Every week it’s great to see new and returning faces. We will now be in our fourth week since launching and we are averaging more than 20 people each week, which is great!
We’ve had some fantastic feedback and ideas over the weeks and met some amazing new friends along the way. I know some of you are still unsure about coming, questioning what it will be like and if you have had bad past experiences but this group is just so accepting, friendly and welcoming. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you drop in one Sunday and see for yourself. There is a wide range of ages and identities and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Leave your preconceptions at the door and come on in.
Here’s what a few people who have attended said:
I’ve had such a great time these last three weeks. I would definitely recommend this Sunday afternoon social to anyone who is looking to make new friends and connect with this ever-growing, inclusive and accepting group of people.
Because I think it’s a good way to meet and see others a little more often, especially those who may not even like clubbing or can’t go even if they wanted to.
Always a fun time and a wide range of identity and age 🙂
It’s been so heartwarming to see all the new friendships developing. The community is growing every week and it’s exciting to see. I have experienced issues in the local LGBTQ community in the past but this is a very different vibe and very non judgmental. Social Sunday leaves me feeling positive and hopeful for the future of the community here and for those generations to come.
If you are feeling anxious or need some support in attending a social please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Scunthorpe LGBTQ Society team via social media or email. All their links can be found here.
