The award-winning Chicago Blues Brothers present the world’s biggest and best tribute to the legendary Blues Brothers with ‘MOTOWN MISSION’, a two hour high energy, all-singing, all-dancing songfest featuring over 40 smash hits – many of which were featured in the Blues Brothers films – performed live in concert. Fronting the 9-piece band is the brilliant Chris Hindle as Joliet ‘Jake’ Blues and Gareth Davey as Elwood Blues.

Says Chris, who also serves as the show’s musical arranger and producer: “One of the things I love about being a Chicago Blues Brother is the chance to carry on the legacy of the legendary John Belushi as Jake Blues; he was a crazy, funny guy who was unpredictable and wild – very much like me! ‘Motown Mission’ is a great show – we perform original music from the Blues Brothers films as well as many hits from the 50s, 60s, and 70s and wherever we go, audiences know most of the numbers – it’s a total blast from start to finish!”

Jake and Elwood are joined onstage by a top live band, a kick-ass brass section and backup vocalists, not to mention a Blues Brothers-style set, lights and totally rock ‘n’ roll design, complete with trademark shades. The Chicago Blues Brothers capture the sound, energy, humour and characters that propelled John Landis’ classic 1980 film to worldwide fame. ‘The Blues Brothers’ starred John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Carrie Fisher, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles and many more and achieved worldwide cult status.

CHRIS HINDLE is JOLIET JAKE BLUES- Chris Hindle is the driving force behind The Chicago Blues Brothers; Chris is the producer of the show and from stage set to art work, social media to arrangements – Chris is right there at the heart of everything.

Chris trained at the De Costa Academy of Singing in York; a natural tenor and performer. In Joliet Jake Blues, Chris has truly found his calling.

At August 17th 2018: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Aretha Franklin, a truly inspirational woman who came from a very humble upbringing to become the biggest voice the world has ever heard. The Queen of Soul’s distinctive, powerful voice is instantly recognisable the moment you hear it – it probably stopped the traffic of Detroit in the early days! Aretha was a gifted musician; she learned to play the piano without being able to read music and won 18 Grammys, a Golden Globe and in 2018 she was named America’s most popular female artist. The world has lost one of its biggest legends, a true icon of music and a truly amazing lady. We have the great privilege of being able to carry on her legacy with the show and the songs will mean so much more to all of us as we perform them. Respect.”

GARETH DAVEY is ELWOOD BLUES- Award winning vocalist Gareth ‘Elwood’ Davey was a well established solo artist before joining The Chicago Blues Brothers. From deep bluesy bass vocals to sweet soulful falsetto, Gareth possesses a rare vocal range that perfectly suits his role as Elwood Blues, the role originally performed by Dan Aykroyd. A born entertainer, Gareth is a natural dancer, a born musician and has a dynamic stage presence which audiences love.

Q&A With Chris & Gareth

Tell us about MOTOWN MISSION

CHRIS: This is something new, it’s never been done before in Blues Brothers history. The band were basically a cover band, and we are a cover band of a cover band, so we decided to take on some of Motown’s biggest hits and combine them with the Blues Brothers Biggest Classics to create a non- stop two hour party – I’m looking forward to seeing my creation and production come to life and I can’t wait to see the public’s reaction – I’m hoping they’re gonna love it!

GARETH: I’ve always loved the Motown sound – since I was a kid those artists have been there as a soundtrack to some very memorable moments in my life – so to perform some of these songs live onstage with a big band is just something I never dreamed of. I can’t wait!

What do you like best about being a Chicago Blues Brother?
CHRIS HINDLE: Working with a great cast of musicians, getting to play all over the world doing something you love!

GARETH DAVEY: It has to be the music – and I love dancing so to play Elwood gives me the chance to really let rip with my moves onstage!

What’s your favourite part of the show?

CHRIS: It’s the initial walk out onto the stage; as Jake and Elwood walk on, a roar always goes up from the crowd. It never fails to send a tingle down my spine and I know it’s the start of something magical for the next two hours.

GARETH: I love meeting everyone after the show. We always go out to the foyer to chat and do photos with members of the audience. It’s a great opportunity to meet people and to thank them for joining us.

What’s your favourite Motown song?

CHRIS: I love ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ – we’ve done a live, shorter version; it’s very upbeat and I would definitely classify it as a psychedelic soul tune! It won the Temptations two Grammy Awards in 1973 for Best R&B Vocal Performance, and for Best R&B Instrumental Performance.

GARETH: The classic ‘My Girl’ – also by the brilliant Temptations – everyone knows the song and everyone sings along to the chorus.

Who’s your favourite Motown artist?

CHRIS: The Four Tops: they helped define the Motown sound of the 1960s. We do a great medley of some of their biggest hits in the new show including ‘Baby I Need Your Loving’, ‘Reach Out I’ll Be There’, ‘Walk Away Renee’, and of course ‘I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)’.

GARETH: The Temptations: I love their distinct harmonies, their smooth choreography and their fabulously flashy wardrobe! I just love them. They’ve had quite a number of lead vocalists over the years but my favourite remains the smooth operator himself, Mr David Ruffin, who gives ‘My Girl’ its gorgeous high range lead vocals.

How do you guys keep fit?

CHRIS: The show itself helps me keep fit – two hours of non-stop energy burns a lot of calories! I also have a beautiful Labrador crossed with a Dogue de Bordeaux (French mastiff) called Daisy who I walk twice a day. Along with a little gym time this helps to keep me ready to party…although if people ask me where I get my energy from, I always answer ‘chocolate’…

GARETH: I do a lot of dancing in my role as Elwood so this really helps me keep fit. I’ve evolved the Elwood to be a very funky soulful mover actually… I’ve also got a dog – a springer spaniel called Stanley who requires a lot of walks; I also play football when I get the chance.

“If you want to go and see a show that has an extremely talented band, great vocalists, humour, dancing, feel thoroughly entertained and leave feeling like you have just been to a huge party then look no further than The Chicago Blues Brothers.”

“Closing the show with ‘Let the good times roll’ had the whole audience up on their feet…a foot-stomping 2 hours of infectious fun and some of the best entertainment anyone could ask for…” (

“Hats off to The Chicago Blues Brothers for bringing fun and laughter to Manchester!” (audience member)
