When we first had the idea about setting up a Popup Art Gallery in Scunthorpe it just seemed like a bit of a mad idea, hatched by a community journalist, a compulsive doodler and a slightly eccentric shopkeeper with a bit of spare room. We wanted to create a space for people who couldn’t get their art in galleries to showcase their work. The simple principles were that it would be free to come in, free to exhibit, staffed by volunteers and any money raised would go direct to the artist.
We worried that we wouldn’t have enough art to show, we worried that nobody would want to look and we worried that we would spend our Saturdays talking amongst ourselves.
What we created was something far bigger than anything we hoped for.
