Over half term week, a mysterious enormous snoring, purring, twitching cat has come to take a snooze in the gallery at 20-21 In an unforgettable experience for visitors. Learn the story of how the cat was discovered, and then show it some affection by giving it a stroke or a cuddle.
Explore The Cat That Slept For A Thousand Years – A 10 metre long Cat that snores, purrs, twitches its ear and swishes its tail! The cat invites all ages to immerse themselves in her unique movements. Visitors can show their affection by giving it a stroke or a cuddle, and feel a massive purr. The more people there are, the more restless it is.
Bringing a touch of magic to the darkened gallery space, The Cat That Slept For A Thousand Years is ideal for young and old alike, promising an unforgettable experience for everyone.
About the artist
Air Giants
Air Giants is a creative robotics studio building fantastic, enormous robotic creatures. Their robots are bio-inspired, meaning their design and movement draw heavily from nature. Air Giants are the first in the world to make interactive soft robotics at this scale . These are the biggest robots most people will ever encounter. Some are taller than double-decker buses, and they are all safe to approach, touch, and connect with.

| Live music in the Gallery with Ultimate Thunder, Andrew Abbott, James Mabbett and Get Crafty! Saturday 26 September, 1pm to 4pm. Artists and musicians Andy Abbott and James Mabbett have been working alongside our regular Get Crafty group to create a sound collage inspired by the Steel Works exhibition which will be played throughout the gallery. Then at 2pm we’re delighted to welcome Ultimate Thunder – a punk and metal band from Leeds, consisting of musicians with learning disabilities for a raucous end to Scunthorpe Steel – The Exhibition at 20-21. Get Crafty sound works is between 1pm and 2pm. Ultimate Thunder will be performing from 2pm to 2.30pm. Please note there may be some disruption to the exhibition film sounds during this time. Free to attend with no booking required. |
| The Strangest of Things – Spooky Family Funday Saturday 24 October, 11am to 3pm. Things are getting VERY Upside Down at 20-21! Join us for a Stranger Things-inspired day of slime-making, strange creations, bubble artists, spooky stilt walkers and creative workshops. Come dressed as your favourite character or your spookiest self! Free to attend and no booking required. Little Sparks – spooky edition Tuesday 27 October, 10.30am to 11.30am. Little Sparks is a fun, hands-on session aimed at under-fives, where art and science collide. Get messy this spooky season with slime making and more. Each session costs £5, including a free drink and snack, with no booking required. Have a Go… Junk Modelling Wednesday 28 October, 10am to 12pm. Turn everyday materials into something new in this creative upcycling session. This session is free, all materials are provided, and there’s no need to book – simply drop in and get creative. Suitable for children aged five and above and adults. Spooky Crafts Thursday 29 October, 10.30am to 3.30pm. Drop into 20-21 to make something to freak out your family. Free to attend and no booking required. |
