New Town Centre Venue Opening Next Weekend

On Saturday 24th May, a town centre bar will be opening . Most recently known as the Alternative Barcade “The Black Door” As it closed suddenly a few months ago. The lease has now been taken over.

The venue will be opening under new management as Rob Beach takes over with a new team and a “new” name. The bars name is not so new as it will be returning to it’s roots and the name will revert back to “The Britannia”.

The iconic building “The Britannia Hotel” was built back in 1907. The pub in turn gave it’s name to “Britannia Corner” where it is situated.

Some may be disappointed to know it will no longer be an alternative/ rock grunge bar and it was the only bar of it’s kind in the area.

It’s not absolutely certain what the vibes will be yet in the New Britannia, but word from the new management seems they hope to give it a stylish makeover with a classy feel and a VIP lounge. With big plans in the works.

Behind the bar may be a familiar face to some who used to frequent the now closed venue (The Penny Bank) as Shaun pulls out his crisp white shirt once again he will be back serving up cold beverages and banter.

Obviously it’s not aiming to replicate what once was the Britannia back in the day, whichever Brit you remember from years gone by and it’s a reduced venue size as the rest of the building is office space, so it will occupy the side closest to the small car park and the venue has 2 decent size rooms.

It is positive to see venues re-opening rather than staying closed, I won’t lie I’ll miss Black Door’s vibe and interesting decor but I will be sure to support the new venue replacing it. Because if you don’t use it, you lose it. So if you want to have a look at the place and see what’s changed, head to the opening weekend on 24th-25th May.

This also happens to be the Stadium Weekender so once you’ve finished there, if you want to head into town for a drink and a dance.
