Quick Review // Party In The Park @ Normanby Hall

Saturday was our first experience of Normanby Hall Country Park’s annual family festival “Party In The Park”. It was a hot day and we got away with one cooling downpour.

The stage sound and power was much better quality than their usual lawn events so this made all the difference.

There were some talented local musicians on stage throughout the day. My favourite in particular being Gathering Of Strangers.
It was slightly quieter than expected but I think the location, ticket price etc may factor into that. Never the less it was a well organised and safe family event. It was nice to be able to leave your chairs and bags and return to them.

The sun shone and the stage looked great with the lighting and big screen. DJ Matthew Stephenson kept the crowds dancing with a real mix of tunes for all ages. The kids were all having a great time and when the heavens opened the umbrellas and ponchos came out and for those that didn’t duck for cover under the old tree they were quite happy to keep dancing in the rain.

I was really impressed with the non alcoholic options at the bar, most places do seem to be catering to this a lot more than they used to. So it was great to be able to have a cold pint of 0% and not have to sit sipping on Cola.

The gate staff and security made entry easy, and the bag checks were thorough but didn’t take long. I did find the drink rule a little odd, if you had sealed water (new bottles) you had to uncap it and open it. Which seemed strange as usually festivals prefer sealed bottles maybe it’s so people don’t go throwing plastic caps around the lawns and ponds *shrugs*. Anyway, it wasn’t too much hassle and rules are rules at an event like this.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay until the end but the bands I did see were all great. I bet the atmosphere at dusk once everyone left their camping chairs was pretty decent and brought some festival vibes. All in all it was a nice day out. It was good variety and choice of music to cater for all ages and tastes.

Everyone was friendly and it felt a safe and relaxed environment. It was nice place to spend the day with family and it’s a good introduction festival for little kids to experience too.
