Scunthorpe Pride is for everyone, the volunteers behind the event pride the event on being an event that brings everyone together in the community. Celebrating people as individuals and showing pride in our town. Showing that diversity, equality and support is present, even if at times it may seem far from it. You don’t need to be part of the LGBTQ+ Community to show support and be kind to others. This image that some people have in their minds from the way the media sometimes portrays pride events is far from the reality. So rather than judge, come along, see what it’s about and who knows you might have a nice time, open your mind and make some new friends with it.
Rather than waste everyone’s time asking when Straight Pride is, google it…. or set it up.
Scunthorpe Pride is a free day festival, celebrating music, arts and culture.

Our small team of volunteers have been working all year round to bring Scunthorpe Pride festival back for it’s second year. Our aim is to shine a positive light on our town and show support for our LGBTQ+ community. Many of the local LGBTQ+ community feel isolated or rejected by the town and we want things to change. The atmosphere of last year’s event was electric, with a friendly and happy community vibe. It brought people and families together and it gained amazing feedback and some heartwarming stories.
The event is for the wider community and beyond, not limited to those within the LGBTQ+ community, we welcome all different people from all walks of life to attend and celebrate this day of inclusion, culture, diversity and visibility in our small town.
We’ve gone big on the stage this year, with pride wings the stage will span around 14m and certainly stand out.
The main Children’s & family entertainment will be onstage from 12pm with the fantastic A-OH-K providing a children’s rave and family party time.
Returning as host on the day, International drag act Dame Ida. Ida has a huge fan base and bags of charm. She was a firm favourite at Scunthorpe Pride 2023.
Quote From The team: “We have worked hard all year round, raising funds and organising our 2024 annual pride event. After last year we are excited to see everyone again. It was such an amazing atmosphere and so great to witness the local and wider community join together for a celebration of diversity, acceptance and culture. It was such a colourful and happy event and we were overwhelmed with the high turnout, seeing over 3,000 people throughout the day. With it being our first year none of us had experience of organising a pride event before and we just didn’t know how well received it would be.”
We launched Scunthorpe Pride in 2023 because we felt our community needed this event to bring it together, at times the town feels very unsupportive and lonely for a lot of people and that isn’t just limited to the LGBTQ+ community but people in general, the event feedback and the heartwarming stories and experiences that were made at the event make it all worthwhile. For some people this was the first pride they’d ever attended and there is just something so familiar and safe when you are surrounded by people you know are accepting and friendly.
The event came about as a small group of strangers met to talk about holding social meet ups for the community and the rest is history, from this we took the leap and got planning and haven’t looked back since, the team have met some great people and made friends for life, as have the community that attend our regular events. We understand, not everyone gets what pride is and why it happens and it does seem to create a lot of anger and hate, which then backs up just another reason pride still needs to happen. At the end of the day we are all human and what’s wrong with an event that celebrates love, happiness, diversity and togetherness, whilst also remembering those in our LGBTQ+ community that are still not free to live their authentic selves and those that fought for our rights to get us where we are today.
This year we will trial our first ever small scale on foot town centre parade, lead by our
pride Co President Beckie, she will assemble the parade at the meeting point and lead
everyone down through town to the main arena.
There will be local bands and performers on the main stage with a few surprises along the way and we’ve secured excellent 90’s legends Kelly Llorenna and Ian Van Dahl for main stage performances. Pride circuit favourite, Smashby will be joining us for an energetic set as well as a big tribute act to pop sensations STEPS, Deeper Shade Of Blue. We like to support local and we like variety so we’ve also got Shoot the Messenger bringing those pop punk vibes along with rising star BUZZKILL JOY born in Scunthorpe but moved on to bigger things in London, It’s bringing a flavours of Yungblood. September 6th, singing and songwriting duo, local burlesque troupe The Sugar Dolls, over 60’s Belly Dancing with Jadeed Badaya and Makaton with Starlight Arts.
This year we have submitted to have the bar area open, so we are moving it into the main arena and we will be opening our own can bar, alongside Event box bar that will serve gin, mocktails, prosecco etc.
The popular pride market returns and various food vendors providing a good selection of tasty treats from stone baked pizza to fish & chips. Also joining us again this year 20:21 Visual Arts Centre, the fantastic team here are curating a Queer Art Exhibition called “Strong As Steel” with artworks primarily from the LGBTQIA community.
We also have Scunthorpe Central Library opening to provide quiet space and an escape room and activities. There’s also the UTC Engineering College giving us their space to host activities and stalls provided by UCNL University and other organisations.
We have again invited local businesses, charities, groups and organizations to support the event and have received an excellent response. There is still time to get involved and show your support.
