On Saturday night, reviewer Bill, went over to Crowle to review 4 piece band from South Yorkshire, “Vinyl Wax”. It was the band’s first appearance in this area.
The band members are Frank, Lead singer/ Lead Guitar, Chippy on Drums, Brian Bass Guitar/ Steel Guitar and Macca on Rythm Guitar / Electric Piano.
The small number of members in the club were treated to a large mix of songs covering Motown, Beatles,The Who and Rock and Roll.
They started the night off with The Beatles, Hard days night with rank taking the Lead. They all harmonised on the original version of Walking the Dog. Then Macca took the main vocals on Blue Suede Shoes and Proud Mary. Frank then took the lead on the Stranglers Duchess and I Feel Fine. Next Chippy took the vocal lead on the Motown song, Do I Love You and the classic Walk On By. Frank was then back on lead vocals to finish the first half of the set.
The second spot continued in the same way with frank as the lead singer for all the Young Dudes ,Cant Buy Me Love and Standing There
Macca doing The Wanderer, Substitute and Roll Over Beethoven and Chippy doing Lets Dance, Love Train, Mustang Sally and Heatwave.
As can be seen this is a very versatile band who has a singer for each genre. If this is the type of music you like or would just like an evening listening or dancing to a band who thoroughly enjoys performing then remember Vinyl Wax. Not to leave Brian out, apart from his excellent Bass Guitar playing we were treated to a version of Sleepwalk on the steel Guitar.
