Bain View Glamping Experience // Lincolnshire

We had been looking for a good value countryside glamping break for over Easter and came across this little gem, Bain View Glamping, it’s about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Scunthorpe and it’s a scenic and easy drive, the site is not far from Horncastle, just off Main Road, Haltham and a short drive the other direction to Woodhall Spa.

We don’t really camp, and taking all the gear you need for a few nights can be a major put off, to me anyway. So this was like a little home away from home without the hassle and distraction of day to day life, no TV and WiFi to waste the hours away. Unfortunate that the weather wasn’t brilliant and it did rain a lot but the Vineyard Shepard’s hut we stayed in was nice enough and big enough to spend time, it was especially cosy with the fairy lights and roaring indoor log burner. The hosts even supplied a shelf with books to read and various board games so we did dabble in a bit of draughts and card games. The whole thing is very thoughtful with the guests needs and requirements in mind every step of the way.

The hut honestly had everything you could ask for, from kitchen utensils to fresh towels, shampoo, shower gel and cleaning supplies. The indoor shower was hot and powerful and the composting toilet surprisingly good, especially with a spray of the Eco friendly white vinegar and essential oil mix. The decor and finishing touches in the hut were lovely, very impressive what they’ve done with such a small space.

The first night was far too windy and wet to cook outdoors, there was a 2 ring gas hob in the hut though. We decided to have a drive into Horncastle, which only took 5 minutes and got a takeaway from one of the local pizza and kebab shops.

We did get some sun later in the day on our final evening so we got chance to build a campfire and cook our tea on the fire pit BBQ provided. The second morning, we met our host and spaniel as she cleaned out the other hut from previous guests. We asked for some info on how to walk to the nearest village, which took us through a public right of way into a farmers field, surrounded by sheep and bouncy little lambs. The same field could also be seen closely from our Shepard’s hut, separated only by a the narrow River Bain that ran along the site.

When we got back from our walk, we lit the indoor burner, which then held the heat in the hut until later that night, the mornings weren’t cold either. We grabbed the hammock that is supplied and took it down to the fire pit area and set up with our music and food until the evening, soaking up the last rays of sunlight and watching the sun set in the horizon.

We lay with a blanket in the hammock as darkness fell, watching the sky turn from light to dark and listening to the animal noises that surrounded us, the sheep calling the lambs for bed and the mallard duck flying in for a paddle at dusk into the sites pond, geese flying over head. It was so peaceful we could hear the rain falling elsewhere in the distance and catching glimpses of lighting flashing through the clouds.

We choose to stay Sunday to Tuesday so the site was very quiet and we were the only guests on site the last night, but what makes this site so lovely is the fact it only has 3 guest accommodations. So you aren’t packed into row of caravans or tents. It just had the bell tent (which is suitable for families) and behind that the second hut, which also sleeps 4.

The huts bed was tucked away in a back nook, very comfy mattress and a good nights sleep.

It is an ideal place for a couples weekend away or a family, and if you prefer a quieter site with not many people and minimal human interaction. Great to spend quality time together and relax. It’s not everyone’s idea of a getaway but for those who enjoy nature, open spaces and building fires, it’s probably right up your street, there’s even an outdoor bath with a clever little coil system but we didn’t brave that this time. We really hope to return in the future, possibly the warmer months.
