Town Centre pub launches a surprising food menu

Town centre pub, The Penny Bank have announced that as of this weekend (Saturday 8th Feb) they will be launching a brand new service….food!

It’s been years since the pub last offered dining, under the former name “The Mint”.

What would you perhaps expect from food at a small town centre pub?..well whatever you were expecting, scrap that because they’ve surprised the public with quite an extensive and different menu.

The pub have employed an experienced full time chef, who has previously worked at places such as, The Shires in Gainsthorpe. The chef has created this menu with a passion for food and customers new and old.

The management and staff at The Penny Bank are very excited to be able to now offer their customers a dining experience, which involved a brand new upstairs kitchen and extensive staff training. There will be a breakfast & brunch menu, main menu, desserts menu and a full kids menu.

Most ingredients have been locally sourced, where possible. Supporting Scunthorpe suppliers and traders, whilst creating delicious home cooked meals. The price is obviously a little higher than your average chain pub grub, but The Penny Bank is an independent Freehouse and is the only pub that owners, Portcullis Pub Co own at present. The food will be freshly prepared and the most importantly, the chips aren’t frozen!

The Sunday menu will not be your traditional sunday dinner and will instead be SUNDAY BRUNCH served from 10am until 5pm. If you do decide to pop in for a Sunday Brunch there’s a bonus of free live music every Sunday from 6:30pm. Just enough time to let your food settle before having a dance.

Dining will take place on the two raised areas, either side of the pub. So if you’ve not been for a while give it a try and let us know what you think.

Food starts on Saturday 8th Feb and the service times are as below.

9am-12pm Breakfast & Brunch
12pm-2:30pm -Lunch
6pm-9pm – Dining

160 High Street, Scunthorpe

Review // The Tripdown Project @ Penny Bank

This Bank Holiday Sunday there was a lot of live music going on across Scunthorpe. If you attended a gig and fancy writing a review then email it to scunnynights@gmail.com

The Penny Bank has been rocking it’s foundations a fair few times in the recent months but if you are a fan of classic tunes from that genre then last Bank Holiday Sunday it was the place to be.

The popular venue played host to a truly astounding 60s / 70s rock anthems set from The Tripdown Project. Far above your usual pub band, these guys play at a very professional level and had toes tapping and heads bopping from their first track onwards.

Their rousing set included tracks from such giants as Creme, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bowie and even The Beatles and Elton John among many others. Real crowd pleasers which was easily reflected by the patrons getting to their feet – especially during their well loved rendition of “Twist and shout” and there was a bit of a hair storm to rival the 70s during their powerhouse finale with Black Sabbath’s “War pigs”.

These lads did their heroes proud, you only had to close your eyes to their riffs and you felt like you were in presence of the Clapton, Ronson, Townsend et all.

I very much hope they make a return visit – if they do, go see them – you will not be disappointed.

The Audience was filling up nicely
