Iconic Spitfire to make flypast at this year’s Armed Forces Day

North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day returns this year to Scunthorpe’s Brumby Hall Sports Ground on Saturday 22 June 2019.

This year the iconic Spitfire will make a flypast during the event, which will take place between 11am and 5pm.

The free event will also feature entertainment from The Nottinghamshire Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers, plus children’s entertainment from Nutty Norman and live music.

Armed Forces Day is the chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from those currently in service, to veterans, cadets and their families.

There will be lots happening throughout the day for all the family to enjoy.

A range of food and drink stalls will be there on the day, including ice cream, doughnuts, coffee, burgers and even a double-decker bus bar!

Further details can be found on our website.

Appleby 1940’s Festival 2019

Appleby Home Front brings to you their second and most spectacular 1940s Festival!

Yes, it’s all happening here on the 20th of July in the sleepy little hamlet of Appleby, North Lincolnshire.

Once again (and by popular demand!) the village shall ring with the rumble of military vehicles as they navigate our narrow lanes to come together in their ‘encampment’ on Appleby village field. The troops will be back, bringing to life the atmosphere of the war years, a time of coming together, of make do and mend, and community spirit.

Come and join the Home Front as they present live music of the era – they have a simply splendid line up of entertainment for you at the main event (the pavillion marquee, playing field) with open air music for your delight and delectation. This year you shall while away the afternoon to the delightful tunes of May Blossom, Paul ‘Peaky’ Shelby, the wonderful Washboard Resonators and The Red Canary dance band. Stay with us into the evening, join in the dancing or simply sit and soak up the atmosphere on a (hopefully!) balmy Saturday evening with music from our big band Room 21, ah such bliss!…….sip a prosecco or gin cocktail or gulp down a real ale from one of our bars. Food and drink will be in abundance (no rationing here!).

Living History displays from allied and British troops alongside many civilian and emergency service vehicles of the era.

Punch and Judy will be visiting to entertain the little ones and other things are currently in the pipeline to keep them busy. Appleby Home Front will post updates on their website http://www.applebyfestival.com and facebook page ‘appleby 40s festival’ when they are available.

The vintage market shall be making a welcome return and the Appleby Land Army display will be even more fabulous than before!

Buy your ticket now and get free, automatic entry to the festival raffle – 1st prize £100.
