The Specials // The Baths Hall

The Specials to perform at The Baths Hall – only gig in Humber and Lincolnshire region!

Legendary ska band The Specials are coming to The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe on Sunday, 23 October. Tickets, priced £40 each (booking fee may apply), go on sale at 9am on Friday, 26 February.

It is their only gig on this tour in the Humber and Lincolnshire region.

Hailing from the industrial city of Coventry, this multi-racial seven-piece combined the angry, disaffected voice of punk with the wind-your-waist sensibility of ska and reggae to re-define pop music and make Britain dance again. A mercurial two and a half years later and it was all over, leaving behind seven top 10 singles (two of which went to No.1) and two top five genre-defining albums. Their first single, ‘Gangsters’, released on their own 2tone label in 1979, was their calling card and ‘Ghost Town’, their swan song, encapsulated the political mood in Britain. In between was a larger-than-life reputation for killer sweat-drenched live shows and an attitude that walked like it talked.

Since they reformed 30 years later, The Specials have performed at over 200 shows worldwide including (deep breath): Coachella (US), Summersonic / Fiji Rocks (Japan), Benecassim (Spain), Lalapalooza Festival, (Chile), Montreal Jazz Festival (Canada), Bluesfest Byron Bay (Australia) as well as countless other worldwide event. In the UK they closed the Olympic Games festival in Hyde Park, played Glastonbury, Isle of Wight Festival amongst others and had several sold out tours.

Standing and seated tickets will be available for the visit of The Specials.

Tickets now availible from The Box Office, http://www.bathshall.co.uk or call 08448542776. Calls cost 7p per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.

Eva Plays Dead + Support // Lincoln Imp

This Saturday 21st November you can catch rock band Eva Plays Dead for £5 on the Lincoln Imp stage. Their newest video release has just featured on http://www.kerrang.com.

No-nonsense hard hitters Eva Plays Dead are a British rock band from Nottingham/Derby, UK. Fronted by boss-lady Tiggy Dockerty and her punk tinged vocals. ‘Eva Plays Dead’ blend big riffs, infectious melodies and raucous energy. They have been referred to as the Midland’s Joan Jett and The Black Hearts but EPD take influence from a vast range including Halestorm, Marmozets, Black Flag, Aerosmith, Queens of the Stoneage, LostAlone and Heaven’s Basement to name a few.

KERRANG! – “Monster riffs & powerful vocals.”

ROCKSOUND – “A hard edged rock ‘n’ roll effort. Returning with a greater focus on whopping riffs and melodies.”

METAL HAMMER: “Putting the backbone in blues, this feisty slab of rock’n’roll does a good Halestorm impression while ramping up the tempo with Tiggy Dee’s smash ‘n’ grab act.”

POWERPLAY MAGAZINE: “There are some ferocious riffs to be had here, served up with a hefty dose of snarling attitude from take no prisoners front woman Tiggy Dee. A punchy and gritty slice of modern rock and roll that’s well worth the time of any discerning lover of rock music.”

PUNKTASTIC: “Huge and packed with dark and venomous riffs. Frontwoman Tiggy Dockerty displays her swaggering vocals, laced with plenty of confidence and gusto.”

PLANETMOSH – “4/5. One of the hottest, hard biting rock quartets.”

THE MUSICAL OUTCAST: – “Blasted out at breakneck speed from start to finish this is another slab of hard rock which is impossible to ignore.”

NEW MUSIC // Native Braves – Cathedral

Scunthorpe Nights were lucky enough to preview the new Native Braves track and video ahead of it’s release date (18th June 2015). I don’t usually like to review videos and songs because I believe music speaks for itself, it’s for hearing not so much describing, but I received the preview today and eventually got round to having a look at the new video “Cathedral.” Continue reading NEW MUSIC // Native Braves – Cathedral
