More than 30 years ago, Ben Elton exploded into the national consciousness hosting Channel 4s ground breaking Saturday Live. Now, after a 15 year absence, the Godfather of modern stand-up returns to the medium he did so much to define.

Back on the road with an all new stand-up show, Ben promises to try and make sense of a world which appears to have gone stark raving mad.

‘Just give him a stage and a microphone and Ben Elton is the best. No contest.’ – The Sunday Times

Review // Adam Hastings @ COM-INDIE

The last COM INDIE night saw it’s best turn out to date. £3 comedy on a Thursday night at a lovely venue.

We took our sofa at the front with our hot beverages and saddled up for the evening ahead.

There were six comedians but one in particular stood out, a geordie fellow called Adam Hastings. Turns out he isn’t just a good comedian he is also John Lennon in the popular Bootleg Beatles touring tribute band.

Adam had the audience laughing from the start using audience members to gain more laughs. Comparing people in the audience to famous personalities. One being Gunther from friends and I got the likeness of his science teacher Miss Murphy. His comedy was intimdatingly funny with his direct approach and delivery. Asking audience members out right what they thought of Alan Shearer until he got the answer he didn’t want so he could use his comebacks.

He had the ladies behind us actually crying with laughter that when I looked back one was actually wiping her face from tears.

Seeing Adam was worth my £3 alone nevermind the rest of the laughs we had with the other comedic talent on the night. It’s always great to find new and talented comedians at these low key, intimate comedy nights and if you like comedy then you should definitely give it a chance.

I think this is probably the most I have laughed overall at a comedy night and the organisers do a fantastic job at bringing this talent to Scunthorpe and performing theirselves, bringing us the improv comedy section in the middle of the acts, which resembles mock the week and audience members shout out categories for the comedians to cover.

So why not come along. The next COM-INDIE will take place in October and can be found via the Giggles Live Facebook page.

See you at Cafe INDIE next month for a whole lot of laughs.
