THE MUSIC OF NORTHERN SOUL LIVE

The Baths Hall Scunthorpe  on Friday 16 April.

LORRAINE SILVER

Northern soul legend LORRAINE SILVER recorded “Lost Summer Love” when she was 13 years old in 1965.  Now  54 years later  she has been in the recording studios with legendary record producer IAN LEVINE to cut a brand new single ‘STANDING AT THE INTERSECTION’/ ‘BEST TIME OF MY LIFE’ These have been written especially for her after he saw her perform at the recent ‘Northern Soul Survivors Weekend’ at  Butlin’s Skegness which had 8000 devoted Northern Soul fans in attendance.

Lorraine was  invited to appear for Children In Need on TONY BLACKBURN’S BIG SOUL NIGHT OUT 2017 which was  broadcast live by BBC RADIO LONDON.

Thanks to legendary Northern Soul  DJ RUSS WINSTANLEY  the single Lorraine recorded for PYE RECORDS in 1965 ‘LOST SUMMER LOVE’   became an  iconic track at the legendary WIGAN CASINO in the 70’s  without her knowledge. Due to high public demand the single was re-released on Casino Classics label and sold in excess of 30,000 copies. The track was listed in ‘Blues & Soul ‘ Magazine in 1987 as one of the top 10 Northern Soul records of all time.

This kick-started Lorraine’s career as a Northern Soul artist.  In 2004  she recorded a brand new album of Northern Soul anthems ‘The Northern Soul Sessions’ which  still sells well on download today under the new title ‘Northern Soul Diva’. This  includes her re-recordings of classic track ‘LOST SUMMER LOVE’ her follow up single ‘THE HAPPY FACES’ and her versions of  some Northern Soul classics including ‘LANDSLIDE ‘ & the Burt Bacharach/Hal David penned ‘LONG AFTER TONIGHT IS ALL OVER ‘.

’LOST SUMMER LOVE’ is still a much loved record on the Northern Soul & Scooter scene today  and is featured on numerous download & CD compilations.

Town Centre pub launches a surprising food menu

Town centre pub, The Penny Bank have announced that as of this weekend (Saturday 8th Feb) they will be launching a brand new service….food!

It’s been years since the pub last offered dining, under the former name “The Mint”.

What would you perhaps expect from food at a small town centre pub?..well whatever you were expecting, scrap that because they’ve surprised the public with quite an extensive and different menu.

The pub have employed an experienced full time chef, who has previously worked at places such as, The Shires in Gainsthorpe. The chef has created this menu with a passion for food and customers new and old.

The management and staff at The Penny Bank are very excited to be able to now offer their customers a dining experience, which involved a brand new upstairs kitchen and extensive staff training. There will be a breakfast & brunch menu, main menu, desserts menu and a full kids menu.

Most ingredients have been locally sourced, where possible. Supporting Scunthorpe suppliers and traders, whilst creating delicious home cooked meals. The price is obviously a little higher than your average chain pub grub, but The Penny Bank is an independent Freehouse and is the only pub that owners, Portcullis Pub Co own at present. The food will be freshly prepared and the most importantly, the chips aren’t frozen!

The Sunday menu will not be your traditional sunday dinner and will instead be SUNDAY BRUNCH served from 10am until 5pm. If you do decide to pop in for a Sunday Brunch there’s a bonus of free live music every Sunday from 6:30pm. Just enough time to let your food settle before having a dance.

Dining will take place on the two raised areas, either side of the pub. So if you’ve not been for a while give it a try and let us know what you think.

Food starts on Saturday 8th Feb and the service times are as below.

9am-12pm Breakfast & Brunch
12pm-2:30pm -Lunch
6pm-9pm – Dining

160 High Street, Scunthorpe
