On Saturday night one of our newest reviewers, William went down to the Honest Lawyer in town.
I was there to review an acoustic trio Johnny and the Rocket. The information I had been given via the internet on the trio’s Facebook was that the genre of music was a twist of rock and pop. I was interested to see how the gig went, with the venue it was being performed at. I was interested before it had even started.
The Honest Lawyer is not a big venue and it is thin and narrow, but holds an excellent reputation for its restaurant and selection of beers and beverages.
Having never heard acoustic Rock, I was wondering how it was possible for such an event to take place. My curiosity was soon answered, after moving a few bits of furniture and setting up, the trio Johnny & The Rocket, comprised of Dan Senior on lead guitar and vocals, Jonny Bilton on Rhythm and vocals and Daryl Griss on Cajun, treated the audience to an excellent evening of rock music.
The audience were taken on a musical Journey into the night, with Johnny & The Rocket covering such artists and bands as The Mamas and Papas , Hendrix, Kings of Leon, Rag N Bone Man, Oasis and Nirvana to name a few.
It is difficult to tell the size of the audience in the Honest Lawyer but it looked busy from where I was sat and the audience were really enjoying what Johnny and the Rocket were offering.
They were very vocal and a few ventured onto the small space, which was the dance area. The three members of the band were all talented and experienced musicians and because of this they sounded more like a full non acoustic band.
Finally, I would like to thank The Honest Lawyer and the band for a great night and for showing that good entertainment can be put on in smaller places, as well as the larger venues and a good night was enjoyed by all.
It is so important to support local venues and local bands and artists. So don’t forget to pop along to the smaller gigs and venues as well as the big ones.
