Singer-songwriter from Scunthorpe Luke Todd is currently working on the release of his debut single “Time Will Tell”.
The song is being released on 14th October and he is celebrating by putting on a gig at Café INDIEpendent with support from Richard Rands and an acoustic set from The Claxby’s.
It’s not hard to imagine the humble beginnings of ‘Time Will Tell’ taking place on some endless grassy plain beneath the last fading slivers of the sunset, or along some wind-battered shoreline staring out towards the horizon, or sat atop a hill looking down at the world below and pondering what it all means. Although this pensive pastoral folk track conjures up images of someone lost in thought deep in the far-off countryside, its origins are quite different.
Scunthorpe’s own Luke Todd had been working at the local Steel Works before discovering such artists as Frank Turner, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen. Their heartfelt storytelling, building whole worlds and narratives around just a simple acoustic guitar, captured his imagination and provided an escape from the claustrophobic confines of industry. His inspiration grew into dedication; a drive to tell his own story, that compelled him to leave his job behind and pursue his passion.
Luke describes his new single as “a song about growing up and asking the questions which most of us ask ourselves. Where will we be in ten years’ time? What will we end up doing with our lives? Will any of us make a difference and if so then how? Is life about achieving something not many others do or is it about family and the simpler things in life?” It is more than just the questions we ask ourselves however, it also tells of those who stand by us while we find ourselves wondering what really matters and what the world may have in store. This is reflected in the single’s artwork, showing Luke surrounded by those who have shown him love and support each and every step of the way.
Performing all across his hometown, and further afield to such as Leeds and Newcastle, has only fanned the flames of Luke’s passion for music.
Playing each gig like it could be his last, like the whole world was watching, he is an artist that pours his heart and soul into all that he does. To celebrate the release of his new single on October 14th, Luke will be performing at Scunthorpe’s Café INDIEpendent, delighting patrons with his own sublime storytelling, as well as performing tracks from other like-minded troubadours that have influenced him.
With his poignant lyricism, he paints his own thoughts in a way that captures how many of us feel, but all too rarely find the words to express, and he is determined to share that message with anyone who would care to listen.
